We were commissioned to create a series of three custom hand-painted murals for the people who bring Cinnamon Life to life—the faces behind the brand and the spaces they inhabit every day. At the heart of the brief was a desire to reflect everything the organisation stands for: rooted in the centre of Colombo, shaped by its layered histories, and surrounded by the many stories that give the city its spirit.

The first mural draws from the origins of Colombo itself—a city built upon wetlands. Despite its urban rhythm, Colombo remains alive with birds, wildlife, and abundant flora. Inspired by this coexistence, the mural brings together the colours of these wetlands with Cinnamon Life’s signature purple, celebrating the quiet presence of nature woven through the city’s landscape.

The second mural takes the form of an illustrated map of Colombo, highlighting key locations connected to the experiences and tours offered by the hotel. Each landmark was thoughtfully illustrated and positioned in alignment with the city’s geography and tour routes, brought together through a colour palette that remains distinctly purple—vibrant, tropical, and unmistakably electric.

The final mural is a typography-led piece that captures the soul of Colombo through its letters. By observing the city’s everyday typographic language—road signs, posters, stamps, currency, and storefronts—we created a composition that expresses Colombo’s rhythm and character through lettering alone. Featuring all three major languages spoken in Sri Lanka—Sinhala, Tamil, and English—this mural becomes a celebration of the city’s voice, diversity, and shared identity.
